Darren, I chose to model after myself, as he does exhibit some of my qualities. Normally quiet and calm, he prefers to stay mostly to himself unless he's hanging out with his friends, which is every now and then.
Darren's closest friend is in fact Vanessa, who he was hilariously introduced to at preschool one day on her first day in town. On their first meeting a slight accident happened and she's been hooked on him ever since. While Vanessa might openly show her affection towards her best friend, (and seduction) Darren isn't quite the person to reciprocate such feelings, although he does have a soft spot for her deep inside. This doesn't stop him from playing the occasional prank or practical joke on her, though.
In his first comic appearance his concern over Vanessa's well-being adds to the comic's "funny" factor.
His closest friend besides Vanessa is Daisy's cousin Petey. The often are seen hanging out with one another when they need to get away from the girls. They usually wind up in some weird shenanigan regardless.
